AN EARLY RUN of ENGINE NO. 1
Gary's first Lockwood engine, as described in this article. Exhaust flame can just barely be
seen at top left. The black tube below the exhaust cone is the intake duct, where flame is
also ejected [though it doesn't show in this run]. Note the curved reflector 'heat shield' just
in front of the tailpipe U-bend - this would presumably prevent the kart driver's hair spray
from igniting. [The driver's seat seems to be removed in this shot - a little of the 'welded
chain' steering wheel (white) is just visible at the right edge]
